A popular approach to information management in the employment world is to simply have a candidate submit their information, inclusive of their work history and personal contact information, to the potential employer or recruiter.  In more modern applications this has included use of a LinkedIn profile which includes most of the same information, but also allows prospective employers to see who you may already know in the space or at the company.  But what is done to protect your information?

At WikHR, the BigTB security engineers designed a platform that accommodates the needs of security professionals in both cleared and non-cleared settings.  WikHR starts by asking a candidate information about their experience and what they are looking for in a new position.  The platform can only operate on information provided by the jobseeker, which means that WikHR does not work with the Apple Store or Google Apps or any other app store to access information from your device.  If you install a phone application for a job board, that generally means giving up significant access about your device as well as your location.  Once the information about you and/or your device is matched with the information about you, then it can be connected with all of the other data sets that other companies have with your information.  These information sharing agreements are common and popular.  What does that mean for security professionals?

By using WikHR, jobseekers are working with tools that are designed to only collect the necessary information for the transactions.  Additionally, WikHR is accessible through a web-based application that works on any device.  So, if you want to be applying for a new job or starting a new career, but are worried that an employer may see your internet history, this allows you to access WikHR from any internet connected device with a modern browser (including most TVs!).  In fact, you can even access WikHR by phone through a browser or incognito window.

Dear candidate, be aware of the information you’re giving out the next time you go to apply for a job. Downloading an app isn’t necessarily not secure – but it’s unnecessary. You’re just exposing yourself to one more risk.
